Useful Studies

Please note that Debate Guide is not a source for scholarly articles. We simply list the most notable / famous / compelling, whilst other sites such as [IPCE], [MHAMic] and [glgarden] contain the proper databases. For the fastest summarization of all scientific works, we recommend [Cerius Academic] and [PRD]. For criticism of unobjective, morally laden studies, see this article and MHAMic's critique.

Rind et al ('CSA' meta - analysis)

Here and Here

This Study concluded that :

1. "Child Sex Abuse does not cause intense harm on a pervasive basis regardless of gender."

2. "An important reason why the assumed properties of CSA failed to withstand empirical scrutiny in the current review is that the construct of CSA, as commonly conceptualized by researchers, is of questionable scientific validity."

Sandfort (boys on their contacts with men)

Groundbreaking study, using a nonclinical, nonmedical convenience sample. Overwhelmingly positive reactions were found in a sample of 25 boys. It was concluded that the law had to be relaxed to safely contain such relationships for their own benefit.

IPCE on Sandfort

Hall et al (prevalence of pedophilia)

The study showed that 33% and 26% of adult males (who responded to a newspaper advert) experienced equal or higher sexual arousal on the viewing of prepubescent sexual stimuli than adult stimuli, despite the elimination of men who admitted to sexual relations with children. MHAMic's roundup can be found here. IPCE has a more detailed brief, which shows how the experimenters came to a strangely conservative conclusion (which, along with the sampling problems, should be mentioned when first discussing this data). We also recommend reading Daniel's disambiguation brief, on how the 26 - 33% (30%) figure s probably unrealistically high for pedophilia.

Similar - Smiljanich College Study (prevalence of pedophilia - self report)

Similar - Feierman Critique and projection (criticises other studies, then projects 7 -10% for male pedophilia)

Okami (childhood sex play)

A longitudinal study shows that it has no positive or negative effects on a range of other variables, in the current culture.

Various (nature and correlates of pedophilia)

MHAMic covers this subject very well. It can be concluded from these pages that all reliable current research conceptualises pedophilia as an affective condition, and a very poor predictor of anything else, but stress.
